Potter County Planning Commission Monitoring Potential Development Discussions
Potter County Planning Commission Monitoring Potential Development Discussions
Potter County officials are actively monitoring recently released information regarding potential large-scale development activity such as data centers and industrial scale energy projects and understand the growing public interest and concern surrounding projects of this nature.
At this time, Potter County has not been contacted by any developer regarding any proposed development within the county. County officials and the Planning Commission are, however, taking proactive steps to prepare for and evaluate the potential impacts such developments could have on local communities, infrastructure, and the county’s long-term character.
The Potter County Planning Commission is currently in the information-gathering phase and has begun discussions with the County Solicitor, neighboring counties, and regional partners throughout the Pa Wilds region to better understand approaches being explored in other areas facing similar development pressures. As part of this process, the Planning Commission is reviewing existing requirements and exploring opportunities to strengthen local standards where appropriate. Any future ordinance considerations or amendments will be developed with careful attention to consistency with the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code. Our goal is to ensure that Potter County is prepared with thoughtful, enforceable, and legally sound requirements should any future development proposals be brought forward. We recognize the importance of protecting the county’s rural character, natural resources, infrastructure, and quality of life while ensuring transparency and public engagement throughout the process.
The Planning Commission holds public meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. Meetings are available both in person and through a virtual attendance option to encourage broader public participation. These meetings will continue to serve as a forum for discussion as committees advance research and potential recommendations. Residents are encouraged to share their questions, comments, and concerns as the county continues its review and planning efforts.
For additional information or to provide input, residents may contact the Potter County Planning Office at 814-274-8254.
